"Sea, Sun and Love" is the name of which symbolises Dolce&Gabanna's new commercial collection for woman. The bold, romantic collection presented itself on the stage of Milan Fashion Week and is an ode to Dolce's native island of "Sicily"
The entire collection itself is reminiscent to a "fifties post card vibe" with brightly printed bandanna headscarves to raffia sandals and kitten-heeled wrinklepickers - so simple, yet so graphic. A-line dresses floated around the model's bodies as evocative pencil skirt sundresses and lampshade skirts made its way across the runway in an airy satin organza. Silk cloques, wide cut tunic tops with puff-ball beach rompers also revealed itself throughout the show.
Bold-stripes with a hand painted look have always been a wardrobe essential, and we here see it back on the stage after Prada's S/S 11 collection. Many colours were seen and used in this collection though the palette of tomato, ultramarine and white where a dramatic foil to fanciful folklore and prints.
The designers took the islands remarkable handicraft and worked them in sophisticated ways. Classic ceramic planters shaped like turbaned heads, which are a speciality of the romantic hilltop of Taormina were incorporated into lively coloured prints or dangled as chic earrings.
This collection definitely takes us back to warm summer days spent patterning around cobbled stones and dining out at small Italian cafes with printed table cloths.
